Cilleyville #16 Covered Bridge, Andover - Will Truax Added Information

I was very pleased to receive an email from Will Truax, timberframer, bridgewright, preservation carpenter, wooden bridge historian & blogger http://bridgewright.wordpress.com/ linking me to information he posted on his blog about restoration and local folklore when building Cilleyville #16 Covered Bridge.   Link to his entry Living Memory « Bridgewright, interesting reading. Will was a part of team restoring Cilleyville Covered Bridge.

About Wm. Truax

Proprietor at The Truax Timberwright Woodworks
I'm a timberframer and preservation carpenter, and regularly work on Covered Bridge restoration projects. Bridgewrighting can be a tough row to hoe, for a myriad of reasons. From scheduling issues to differing opinions and philosophies on what is appropriate in methods and materials, to multiple jurisdictions still not sufficiently vetting bidders resumes - Which is to say, just because a company is on that state approved list and capable of building that seven figure overpass, this does not mean they are capable of restoring a wooden bridge... So, I have much to say about all this and more - And despite my tough row observation, I promise not to whine.

Cilleyville#16 Covered Bridge located in Andover - Winter

Cloned photo removal of the school bus, wires and houses.

Original photo with school bus, wires and houses
New Hampshire is know for 54 beautiful covered bridges, at one point in time we had 750 covered bridges.  TABLE OF CONTENTS - New Hampshire Covered Bridges

My husband Bob and I have traveled the state locating and photographing our covered bridges, when possible, different seasons of the year.

I took a photo of  Cilleyville#16 Covered Bridge located in Andover, a winter shot.  My original photo had a school bus, wires and houses.  I decided to clone out and make my shot an artistic winter photo.

Minimalist Photography: Pinecone

I tried a different format of photography, minimalist photography. I spotted a lone pinecone in the snow with the sun light exploding jewels on the snow...I had to try and capture.

Again I am using my EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, taking macro shots.

Icicle

I am so happy to be able to play again with my photography. I noticed icicles hanging from the roof and I wanted to try an shoot. I tried handhold, it did not work...I really have a hard time holding my camera steady for macro shots..I used my 70-200 f/2.8L, to take a closer photo of the icicle.

I set up my tripod but still could not obtain a clear/sharp shot through the window..I kept trying without success.

Finally I decided to take out the screen, the screen is inside, opened the window and shot. It was challenge and I was determined!!! SUCCESS!!!

Kancamagus Scenic Byway January, 2012

Pull Off

Rocky Gorge In Winter

Albany Covered Bridge
Last weekend I took a ride on Kancamagus Scenic Byway not sure what I would find, we have the lack of snow this year.  The lack of snow allowed me to pull into a couple of the waterfalls and Albany Covered Bridge.  Usually this time of year we would a few feet of snow and the access for me would have been impossible.

What excited me, I was able to photograph winter scenes of this area for the very first time.

Rooster and Ducks, Best Buddies

I went out locally to find and take a few photos on Sunday locally. On a side road I frequent for my shots, I found a very usual site.  I spotted three ducks on pond, thinking this might be an interesting shot in a pretty setting. I slowly approaching the area I heard a very loud rooster crow.  What I found was a rooster and ducks!!!

The rooster was following the ducks as they paddled near the bank of pond!!!! It appears they were use to one another, friends and at one point the male duck and rooster were on the landing, standing together, buddies.

Unfortunately, over brush made it hard to take decent photos of my unusual find, best buddies. Not great photos but spotting the rooster and ducks sure made my day.

New Hampshire First Snow in October, Add Your Caption To The Photo

Snow is not unusual in October.  What I found interesting, viewing my photo, you can see we still have leaves waiting to fall, a pumpkin waiting for trick and treaters.

I believe my photo of the pumpkin looking out at the first snow is waiting for your suggested caption.

Courting Candle Stick Holders

One my favorite hobbies are shopping at flea markets, garage sales and consignment shops.  My home I have decorated with my finds. I will post a few of my finds and how I decorate using items.  (I use to host decorating chats for AOL's home area, decorating is my first love, following photography)

My newest finds are two courting candle stick holders.  I did a research and found interesting history about my old candle stick holders.
History of Courting Candles - Wrought Iron Courting Candle Holder found at my favorite consignment shop The Etcetera Shoppe

In the 1600's to the 1800's, courting candles were used by the man of the home to set boundaries for his daughter. When the daughter's suitor came calling, the father lit the candle in a sitting room where the couple conversed.
