Finally A Decent Ringneck Duck Shot

I was out and about yesterday, Bob noticed ducks on Lake Waukewan in Center Harbor.  I had my Canon 100-400 and 1.4 extender and find out my set up was really not going to capture the ducks.

The sun was starting to come out after night of heavy rain, I decided to give it a try one more try.  Three were still on the lake but again too far to photograph.  We turned around and found a pair on the other side of the road  I was finding again too far for a decent shot.  Starting to head home we looked one more time towards the lake and saw that the three original ducks were coming towards the shore line to rest after eating.  My opt!!!!

The reality with birds on water, is that you have to wait for them to come to you. I've shot them with out to 800mm lenses, and it still wasn't long enough at times. Be patient and still, and they will eventually come within range.
