Squirrel and Golden Finch

Golden Finch

Squirrel  trying to out stare me.  He was pretty cute and  very close to the deck....not sure what to make of me with my camera.

You all know about my challenge, taking any kind of birds or wildlife, well I practiced yesterday.

I planted myself with my new 100-400 Canon Lens on our small deck, shooting with this lens.  My pictures were not clear and I wanted to practice.  This batch came out pretty decent.

I prefer taking birds (if and when I can actually see them) in their natural setting, not on the feeders.

Betty that Goldfinch is really tough to capture and you did a great job. We get them in spring and then they go somewhere else (not sure why since this they live in NJ and are our state bird)...and when they are here they are very skittish and tough to photograph. Guess I'll have to get a longer lens. LOL Oh, and the squirrel is adorable!

Excellent job!  I prefer bird in their natural settings too...but that's very, very difficult.

These are beautiful. Between you and Greg, I'm thinking I need to add some equipment to my camera... or to get a new camera with a better lens. Or to learn how to use mine more effectively. bea

did you take any photography classes or is this something that is self taught over the years?
