New Hampshire is know for 54 beautiful covered bridges, at one point in time we had 750 covered bridges. TABLE OF CONTENTS - New Hampshire Covered Bridges

My husband Bob and I have traveled the state locating and photographing our covered bridges, when possible, different seasons of the year.

I took a photo of Cilleyville#16 Covered Bridge located in Andover, a winter shot. My original photo had a school bus, wires and houses. I decided to clone out and make my shot an artistic winter photo.

I tried a different format of photography, minimalist photography. I spotted a lone pinecone in the snow with the sun light exploding jewels on the snow...I had to try and capture.

Again I am using my EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, taking macro shots.

I am so happy to be able to play again with my photography. I noticed icicles hanging from the roof and I wanted to try an shoot. I tried handhold, it did not work...I really have a hard time holding my camera steady for macro shots..I used my 70-200 f/2.8L, to take a closer photo of the icicle.

I set up my tripod but still could not obtain a clear/sharp shot through the window..I kept trying without success.

Finally I decided to take out the screen, the screen is inside, opened the window and shot. It was challenge and I was determined!!! SUCCESS!!!

Last weekend I took a ride on Kancamagus Scenic Byway not sure what I would find, we have the lack of snow this year. The lack of snow allowed me to pull into a couple of the waterfalls and Albany Covered Bridge. Usually this time of year we would a few feet of snow and the access for me would have been impossible.

What excited me, I was able to photograph winter scenes of this area for the very first time.

We drove over a mile, taking in hundreds colorful LED lights, animated displays. You will find a wonderful holiday experience for everyone in your family, putting us in the holiday mood!!

Rooster and Ducks, Best Buddies

I went out locally to find and take a few photos on Sunday locally. On a side road I frequent for my shots, I found a very usual site. I spotted three ducks on pond, thinking this might be an interesting shot in a pretty setting. I slowly approaching the area I heard a very loud rooster crow. What I found was a rooster and ducks!!!

The rooster was following the ducks as they paddled near the bank of pond!!!! It appears they were use to one another, friends and at one point the male duck and rooster were on the landing, standing together, buddies.

Unfortunately, over brush made it hard to take decent photos of my unusual find, best buddies. Not great photos but spotting the rooster and ducks sure made my day.

Another stop my photo group visited was Steel Hill Resorts located in Sanborton. A beautiful resort and showcasing a beautiful view.

Snow is not unusual in October. What I found interesting, viewing my photo, you can see we still have leaves waiting to fall, a pumpkin waiting for trick and treaters.

My newest finds are two courting candle stick holders. I did a research and found interesting history about my old candle stick holders.

I spotted flowers blooming in a field on a back road. The flowers were slightly spent but decide to take a photo. I decided to photo paint using Corel Painters Essentials program would not show up the spent blooms. I think it worked!

Back Roads Discovery: South Weare, NH, Old Garages

Riding back roads last weekend I rediscovered old garages located in South Weare, NH. Last year, I took images of the garages during the winter and red garages among the snow piles really showed up....hard to photograph.

I have mentioned before in my previous entries, if possible I will try to research my finds of old buildings, homes and abandon barns. I really enjoy researching and learning about photos taken, as much as photographing my images.

What you are looking at is a building that was part of the South Weare Garage, a former Ford dealership. The main building was the brick building on the corner. It eventually moved to Goffstown and changed hands and is now Unique Ford located near the police station across from the Hillsborough County Complex on Rt. 114 in Goffstown. South Weare garage was started by Maurice Grant in 1919 and his brother Leon eventually took over and Maurice went on to take ownership of State Motors in Manchester. The last I knew the Grant family is still involved in State Motors.

I was very fortunate, John Colburn associated with Weare Historical Society wrote back with the above information. Thank John!!!

America Flag At A Camp Site at Sunset

I set out to find new spots to take sunset photos, actually following the setting sun. I found an area on Collins Brook Rd, Meredith, discovered lighting on a American Flag hung on a garage in a camp site caught my eye and I knew I had to work quickly before I lost the light.

I shot a few photos and returned home to edit. What I found was the flag mounted on an garage and behind the flag steps of camp (bungalow). I cropped played and sent to my friend Charlie Loy for his suggestions and review.
*He did not like the square crop but if I do keep it.
*The building needed to be lighten (he did not realize I was trying to camouflage the garage.

I started again re-editing.

*I took Charlie's advice about square photo. Change vertical instead, encompassing the sun.
*Lighten the building but cropped leaving a panel of the garage door looking like a door of camp house. Lighten the building slightly for definition.
*Cloned out the steps behind the flag.

I was challenge again by Charlie and his comments helping me to perfect an image and raising my work standards, I am very proud of the outcome. I need to follow his advice more often :)

I have grown to respect and enjoy all types of photography, scenic, stills, street people, sports and etc. The reason why I decided to share my friend Charlie Loy Polo photography with you. You will see why, his work is outstanding.

When I first "met" Charles Loy, professional photographer with over 25 years of experience, was during AOL's photo critique's chat, run by Erwin Seigal, AOL Chat Host at the time.

Charlie's first featured photo I was introduced to during the critique chat, was a portrait titled "Handsome Thoroughbread." This shot was one of the best photos I had ever seen. I started following his Polo- Horses and Riders photos he photographs for The Fairfield Polo Club.

I realized photographing polo was not an easy job, capturing the movement of the game. His photos are sharp, always well exposed, lining up the riders and horses in a frame is always perfect.

I am not familiar with Polo, after checking his photos and reading his descriptions under his photos, become a learning tool about the sport and polo terms.

How could you not admire the beauty of the game and horses after viewing his work.

Bob and I are celebrating another anniversary. I married my high school sweetheart and we grew up in the same town. My Dad was Bob's baseball coach, and Bob was our newspaper boy. We have known each other for MANY years and married for 48 years.

I wanted to share a place we had a dinner tonight with my New Hampshire readers and hopefully entice my out of town readers who enjoy viewing my New Hampshire photos, to visit our beautiful state.

A few months ago I was approached to see if I might be interested in helping photograph Climb to the Clouds | The 2011 Climb To the Clouds Hillclimb. I had never photographed car races before but thought it would be a wonderful and learning experience.

Today is the last day of Laconia's Bike Week. Our residents welcome the bikers, their arrivals are great for our tourist industry plus the event is fun to attend and watch. You will see people lined up on the streets watching the bikers and I have to admit I was one of those people taking photos.

I was out and about yesterday, Bob noticed ducks on Lake Waukewan in Center Harbor. I had my Canon 100-400 and 1.4 extender and find out my set up was really not going to capture the ducks.

The sun was starting to come out after night of heavy rain, I decided to give it a try one more try. Three were still on the lake but again too far to photograph. We turned around and found a pair on the other side of the road I was finding again too far for a decent shot. Starting to head home we looked one more time towards the lake and saw that the three original ducks were coming towards the shore line to rest after eating. My opt!!!!

We finally had a beautiful weekend and Sunday was too nice to stay home cleaning the yard around our snow piles :).

I left my photo equipment home not realizing we were going to stay out after running a few errands. I had purchased a Canon G11 to keep me all times and it paid off. I saw a few really nice photo opts giving me an opportunity to explore and play with my point and shoot. My camera did OK!!!

Meredith April's Sunday Surprise. Scuba Divers

Bob and I were out today and hated returning home because the weather was so beautiful. We took a ride to Meredith, walked the boardwalk and sat looking at the beautiful scenery, taking in the sun. We were NOT alone quite few people were out.

Arriving I started spotting photo opts but as luck would have it, shame on me, I left my photo equipment home. I purchase a Canon G11 point and shoot to carry with me at all times like today.

We noticed two men parking and getting out gear from their truck...scuba diving equipment. April's Lake Winnipesaukee the men mentioned was 45 degrees, still quite few areas on the have ice. Wayne Philibert and Stu May were kind to allow me to take photos and as you can see they were more than willing to educate me and the youngsters.

They explored the underneath part of frozen ice. I have to stress I watch Stu and Wayne setting up and safety was a prime concern...they know what they are doing.

I woke up very early yesterday and look outside, I saw a pretty site, snow covered trees, a light from a street lamp. I grabbed my camera, tripod and started shooting.

My photo group took a trip to The Butterfly Place - Westford, Massachusetts: An indoor garden filled with hundreds of free-flying butterflies!

Our trip was a welcome retrieve, from our snowy landscape and weather. It was HOT, HUMID but so worth the visit as you can see.

Unfortunately I missed the Meredith Rotary Club Fishing Derby the week before do to a winter cold. I was hoping the unique bob houses were still on the lake. The day I chose to visit, the temps were 59 degrees, the warm temps lasted one day and went back to freezing temps the next day.

Bob and I were our riding back roads before our next snow storm yesterday. All of sudden Bob shouts "MOOSE"!!!! I was so excited but quickly realize my long lenses was in my camera bag...no time to change lens.

I took a distance picture. Waited and waited no movement. Bob said "I don't think this is real moose." Becoming extremely emotional, I said "it is hold and wait." We waited and waited, no movement. Bob said,"Betty do you see tracks in the snow?"I didn't. Finally after almost 10 minutes I had to admit again he was right!!!! We both started laughing and left.

I would like to know who the person is that fake me out???? I am sure they might have been watching out the window laughing!!!! I would like to think I was not the first who thought this moose was real.

We had our roof shoveled just in time. Today we had, hail, rain and snow. The weight of the wet snow could be a real problem. I have not notice so many roofs shoveled until this year.

I Used Nik's Solarization Application

We received I would guess about 14 inches of snow finally. I am crazy, I know we just came inside after snow blowing and shovel, the snow is beautiful.

I took a couple of images from inside the house and did a little playing. The photo were take from the lower level of the house ground level looking up.

I used a Nik Solarization application on my one image.

New Hampshire was not hit as badly as New York and New Jersey, we received about 12 inches, including high winds.

I tried capturing the wind gust and swirling snow. I added a photo of Bob snow blowing the snow during a beautiful winter sunset.

One of my favorite spots I like stopping and photographing is a bog area in North Hampton. I try shooting every season, depending on the light when in the area.

Using my new point and shoot, Canon's G11 (learning how to use) I gave it a try and this is what I took...not bad for a point and shoot.

Lensbaby Composer

I attended a photo show and was impressed with the information provided about a Lensbaby. I purchased the Composer lens to create artistic photos and challenge learning a to work with a creative len.

Unfortunately preparing for Christmas has cut into my playing with the new lens ::::grinning:::: but I manage a few shots. I am going to enjoy this lens.

I improved the old photo, lighting the left side and adding more detail to the mountains in the distance. Shuttle changes but I feel improves to the photo. We had the photo printed on canvas.

Testing Canon's Point And Shoot PowerShot G11

I purchased Canon PowerShot G11, allowing me to have a smaller camera with me at all times. I am sure you have experienced the regret not having a camera with you!!!

The PowerShot G11 is an advanced point and shoot, the newer model G12 had HD for video which I would probably not use, so I opted for G11, cheaper price.

Let me know what you think of my pictures I shot with the point and shoot.

On the way to Concord two days ago, I found a small grove of the Tamarack trees, scenic looking shots but as luck will have it no camera in hand. I returned yesterday, the same time day for the great lighting I viewed the day before of the grove.

Blue Hue Mountains, New Hampshire

Bob and I went our Saturday drive. Fall foliage is gone, I really was not expecting to fine anything to photograph. I mentioned to Bob this time of year, morning mist, magic hour, sunrises or sunset, non-existent wildlife, might be the only interesting photography I will find until the snow falls.

I was wrong!!! I notice in the distance a range of mountains viewed from Route 175, Campton, Woodstock, North Woodstock had a blue tinge. We drove around looking for a spot for me to take photos of the blue toned mountains.

I posted a photo on Facebook and question what causes this event...surrounding mountains did not have this hue. I have mentioned before, an added enrichment to my photography, the research and learning about photos I take.

Nigel Peter Benson Kent http://www.nigelpkent.com/ It's UV light Betty...casts blue on distant scenes. Some filters can reduce that...ever try a UV filter? Sometimes the blue cast is from UV, other times it's from moisture haze...sometimes it's from the simple fact that the camera is a long way from the scene and no filter will cut to the true colors. I like blue mountains...so thumbs up!

Have You Ever Heard Of Tamarack Trees?

A friend of mine Brad located Tamarack Trees not to far from where I live. Tamarack trees are also know as Western Larch. In the fall the trees turn a golden yellow and are the only conifer to drop their needles. You will find growing ponds and bog areas.

Another friend mentioned Tamarack Trees was used by our native Americans for making canoes, tepee poles and was used to treat for medicinal use.

After Brad mentioned his finding, I decided to go searching for the trees. I realized had I seen the golden trees, I thought they were dying and would never had photographed, I am very glad Brad educated me. I enjoyed the fun of learning and finding beautiful Tamarack Trees in their golden fall tones.

About 10 years I purchased my first digital camera. A friend and artist asked me to send him photos for him to paint, living in beautiful New Hampshire, finding beautiful scenery was not hard to do. My first image I had taken look pretty good, helping me realize a new interest and hobby, photography. Instead of using the camera for holidays, birthdays, vacations and putting away in drawer waiting for the next event, I started shooting.

Bob and I return often to the place my first image was taken, sadly the park and overlook is overgrown but still offers a pretty view.

I would be interested in hearing what sparked your interest in photography.

Sack Lunches

My blog I share my photos but sometimes I will post what I consider a thought provocative post. Ellen, my friend sent me my below post, I wanted to share with my readers. Have a wonderful day and remember honor our servicemen and women.
I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight. 'I'm glad I have a good book to read. Perhaps I will get a short nap,' I thought.

Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation.

'Where are you headed?' I asked the soldier seated nearest to me.

'Petawawa. We'll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we're being deployed to Afghanistan

After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached the east, and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time...

As I reached for my wallet, I overheard a soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. 'No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn't be worth five bucks. I'll wait till we get to base.'

His friend agreed.

I looked around at the other soldiers. None were buying lunch. I walked to the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill. 'Take a lunch to all those soldiers.' She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. 'My son was a soldier in Iraq ; it's almost like you are doing it for him.'

Picking up ten sacks, she headed up the aisle to where the soldiers were seated. She stopped at my seat and asked, 'Which do you like best - beef or chicken?'

'Chicken,' I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the front of plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first class.

'This is your thanks..'
After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for the rest room.

A man stopped me. 'I saw what you did. I want to be part of it. Here, take this.' He handed me twenty-five dollars.

Soon after I returned to my seat, I saw the Flight Captain coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as he walked, I hoped he was not looking for me, but noticed he was looking at the numbers only on my side of the plane. When he got to my row he stopped, smiled, held out his hand and said, 'I want to shake your hand.' Quickly unfastening my seatbelt I stood and took the Captain's hand. With a booming voice he said, 'I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot.' I was embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers.

Later I walked to the front of the plane so I could stretch my legs. A man who was seated about six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting to shake mine. He left another twenty-five dollars in my palm

When we landed I gathered my belongings and started to deplane. Waiting just inside the airplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five dollars!

Upon entering the terminal, I saw the soldiers gathering for their trip to the base.

I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars. 'It will take you some time to reach the base.. It will be about time for a sandwich.

God Bless You.'

Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and respect of their fellow travelers.

As I walked briskly to my car, I whispered a prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were giving their all for our country.. I could only give them a couple of meals. It seemed so little...

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.'

New York City Skyline and Giant's Stadium View From New Jersey

Bob and I attended our class reunion held in our hometown, East Rutherford, NJ, last weekend, what a great time we had.

We had a beautiful view from our hotel room over looking New York City skyline and Giants Stadium with a football game soon starting. You can see the lighted bill board plus a plane flying over the stadium with banner.

I was in the Bedford area photographing when we passed Beloin Tree Farm and I notice Christmas trees flourishing on the side of mountain. On the returned trip home we passed again, I had to stop and take a pictures of this beautiful scene. I want to returned during the winter and take another image.

A man feeding the fox, was sitting on the ground to left about 3 feet from the fox feeding and photographing.

New Hampshire and surrounding New England states, if you are lucky, you can view wildlife and enjoy wildlife. My favorites are moose, deer, bear and other beautiful animals live and run free in our area. I live in New Hampshire, I love viewing and photographing wildlife and birds but respect my distance, reading and educating myself about their habits and etc.

Something could have frighten the fox and in an instant could have turned on the man who was feeding him. Tourist enjoy our wildlife but with a safe respect.

Important Words From Tom Golaback

Tom was a close friend to my children and to us.

"Melanoma cut Tom's life so short. At his funeral mass today, Tom's brother Mike made wonderful euology and the most important message at the end of the euology was that Tom asked Mike to make sure all his friends and family took the time to check any changes in markings on their bodies, have annual skin scans (which take about 10 minutes) by their dermatologists and to wear sun screen. In honoring one of Tom's last wishes I am passing his and Mike's message on to all of you and hope you pass it on to everyone your care for. Rest in peace Tom; you will always be in our hearts."
